1. When is the municipal election?

Municipal elections are held every four years on the fourth Tuesday in August. Runoff elections, if needed, are held on the sixth Tuesday after the general election. For more information regarding these elections see the Code of Alabama, 1975, Section 11-43-2 or contact the Daphne City Clerk’s Office at 251-620-1100.

2. If I want to run for municipal office, what is the time period for qualifications?

Candidates may begin qualifying once notice of election is published, which is the first Tuesday in July. Qualification period for the 2020 Municipal Election is July 7, 2020 through July 21, 2020.  For more information regarding qualifications, see the Code of Alabama, 1975, Section 11-46-22(a) and 11-46-25(g) or contact the Daphne City Clerk’s Office at 251-620-1100. The qualifying period for candidates runs for 15 days.

3. Where do you go and who do you see to qualify to run for office?

All candidates will qualify with the City Clerk.  She is located at Daphne City Hall, 1705 Main Street, Daphne.  Office hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm during the July 7-21, 2020 Qualifying period.  Contact the Office of the City Clerk in Daphne City Hall, by email, or by calling 251-620-1100.

4. How much is the qualification fee?

The Qualification Fee is $25 to run for Daphne City Council and $50 to run for Mayor of Daphne.

5. How often do citizens vote for a new Mayor and Council?

In the State of Alabama, municipal elections are held every four years on the fourth Tuesday in August. If a runoff is declared it is held on the sixth Tuesday after the general election.

6. How is my voting district determined & where do I vote?

The voting district is based on the physical address where you live, not a mailing address or where you work.

8. How do I get an application to vote Absentee?

Absentee applications may be picked up at the Daphne City Hall City Clerk’s Office, downloading from the Daphneal.com website or you may visit the Alabama Secretary of State’s website to download the attached application.

10. Who can vote?

Persons 18 years of age or older are eligible to vote if they are a registered, are a qualified voter of the State of Alabama who has resided within the corporate limits of the municipality for 30 days or more immediately preceding the date of the election, and are qualified to vote in the County precinct which embraces and covers that part of the municipality in which the elector resides.

11. Where can I get an application to register to vote?

Voter Registration applications are available at the Board of Registrar’s office in Bay Minette or the Satellite Courthouse in Fairhope.

The deadline for registering to vote is ten (10) days prior to any election.
